A drift in our memory banks are the smells and tastes of the food of our childhoods. One whiff of something familiar coming from the kitchen and we are instantly kids again. And no food is more closely aligned with that of childhood than the chocolate chip cookie. Warm and gooey, hard and crunchy, filled with nuts or deliciously plain, the chocolate chip cookie embodies all that is sweet and wonderful about childhood.
As owners and operators of the Toll House Inn in 1930’s Massachusetts, Ruth Wakefield and her husband tended to all of their guests’ needs in an effort to give them a unique experience. Ruth herself worked in the kitchen, quickly gaining popularity with her scrumptious desserts. One favorite, the Butter Drop Do cookie called for baker’s chocolate. Having run out of baker’s chocolate during one of her weekly cookie bakes, Ruth instead substituted semi-sweet chocolate from a bar given to her by one of her guests – Andrew Nestle of Nestle Chocolate Company. Needless to say, the new chocolate chip cookie became quite a hit, as tasters enjoyed the softened chocolate nestled inside the cookie – a far cry from the baker’s chocolate, which melted entirely.
The chocolate chip cookie rocketed to stardom taking semi-sweet chocolate along with it. Eager to align his company further with this popular treat, Andrew Nestle traded Ruth Wakefield a lifetime supply of chocolate for the rights to print her chocolate chip cookie recipe on all of his chocolate packaging.
That famous recipe stands today delighting generation after generation with its simple goodness. Of course, as the years have gone by, those trying to elevate the chocolate chip cookie to the next level have added all manner of different ingredients. Contests are held all over the world in search of the best chocolate chip cookie. But most cookieenthusiasts will tell you that the very best chocolate chip cookie is the one that is simple in its creation. As the saying goes, sometimes less is more.
For the baking challenged among us, the chance to make the chocolate chip cookie is still within our grasp. Advancements in packaging have given way to pre-made chocolate chip cookie dough – ready to slice and bake; no mixing of ingredients, no mess of any kind – and in 10 minutes you have fresh baked cookies right out of the oven.
But if you want to give chocolate chip cookie making from scratch a try, you can always find the sweetest recipe of all – right on the back of Chocolate Chips!.

Low-carb High Protein Diets
This type of diet became very popular as of recently due to the promotion of the ever-popular Atkins Diet Craze. This diet is very popular because there is no calorie counting involved, and many foods that many people love to eat are allowed on the diet. Further, the Atkins diet is a high-protein diet, which means that
weight lost during this diet will not result in lost muscle mass, since protein is the main nutrient needed for maintaining healthy muscle tone. This diet basically eliminates carbohydrates, which are simple sugars or foods that break down into simple sugars. These serve as empty calories in your diet, providing no nutrients yet many calories.
While we wont cover the Atkins diet here, we can give you basics of the high-protein, low-carb diet. First let us identify carbohydrates. Sugar, including powdered sugar, granulated white sugar, brown sugar, or any type of sugar you can think of, is the main carbohydrate that you would need to eliminate. All types of pastas count as carbohydrates, meaning all noodle and spaghetti products must be eliminated. Starches of any type, such as white rice, potatoes and potato chips, need to be eliminated. Cereals are mostly carbohydrates and should be avoided entirely during the diet phase.
Because of the low-carb craze, there are many low-carb options of sodas, milk, ice cream, bread, beer, and wine available in the average supermarket. If you do consume these, be sure to do so only occasionally and in moderation, even if it is a low-carb type. Otherwise, the aforementioned foods should be eliminated entirely when not of the low-carb type. Beware of foods that contain hidden sugars, like bacon, barbeque sauce, ketchup, salad dressing, cough syrup, and fruit juice. As strange as it may seem, fruits and fruit juices should be eliminated while in the weight loss phase of this diet, as they are nearly pure carbohydrates. Anything made with flour needs to be eliminated during the weight loss phase, since as mentioned earlier they are high in carbohydrates.
Now what can you eat? Well, the good news is that you can eat all meats, fish, poultry and seafood, except prepared meats like bacon and honey baked ham, which are high in sugar. Skip the bread and have meat and salad, or meat in your salad. Eggs are very low-carb friendly, but be sure to skip the mayonnaise or salad dressing unless it is low-carb type mayonnaise or dressing. Any type of vegetable is fine, but be sure to realize that when making that salad that tomatoes are actually a fruit, and you want to limit your consumption of them at least during the weight loss phase. Choose brown rice as your starch replacement, as it is low in carbohydrates comparatively to potatoes, bread or white rice. Cheese is good in limited amounts, as this is a high-protein, low-carb food. Butter and cream can be used, but should be consumed in limited amounts. One complex carbohydrate that is good is fiber, as it does not break down into simple sugar, and helps the body with elimination. Further, fiber fills you up quickly without adding significant calories, so hunger pangs are fought off successfully.
Finally, make sure you are drinking at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day minimum in addition to any other liquid you may consume. Dehydration often masquerades as hunger and causes overeating. Of course, again exercise is a necessary and vital part of your diet plan, which we will cover in the next section on exercise.
Once you lose the weight that you set out to lose, the weight loss phase of your diet is over. Of course keep in mind that you are making lifestyle changes, not going on fad or binge diets. This means that you will not go back to your old eating habits. Instead you will introduce certain foods back into your diet in moderation. For example, you may add a couple of strips of bacon once a week to your meal plan. You can enjoy small portions of deserts of any kind, simply in moderation. It is best to avoid soft drinks all together, or opt for the low-carb type permanently. If you do introduce any other carbohydrate-laden foods, be sure to do so only at one meal, and in small portions. Reducing carbohydrates will become a lifestyle to you when following this plan, one is very likely to boost your overall energy level and help you keep the weight off.
How Does the Cookie Diet Work?
It is actually a very low-calorie diet, in which six of the special cookies are eaten when hungry during the day, along with eight glasses of liquid, and only one meal is eaten, dinner, consisting of 6 ounces of lean protein (chicken, turkey, fish or seafood only), plus one cup of vegetables.
The total calorie count of the diet comes out to approximately 800 calories per day, and total carbohydrate intake is about 70 grams per day, making program an extremely low-calorie, low carbohydrate diet.
What is not as frequently mentioned is that reportedly, as many as 60 percent of patients on the Cookie Diet are also prescribed appetite suppressant drugs, and another 25 percent are prescribed thyroid hormones.
The cookies, have amino acids with appetite suppressant properties, are available in chocolate, raisin or coconut flavors, but even they don't taste very good. Don't look for them on your local store shelves anytime soon, however. cookies are available only to patients at his weight loss clinics (five are in Florida, and one is in Montreal), as part of his estimated $400 a month weight loss treatment program.
Is the Diet Effective?
Some weight loss experts say that any diet that provides only 800 calories a day is bound to work, but at what price? Critics say that the diet provides far too few calories to maintain health and energy, and is seriously lacking in fruits and vegetables. (1 cup a day of vegetables doesn't make a dent in the recommendation that we eat 5-9 servings a day of vegetables and fruit). Others have alleged that the Cookie Diet doesn't provide sufficient vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Even Siegal admits that the Cookie Diet is not meant to be used for long periods of time. Many diet experts say that once people resume normal eating habits, they will regain the weight lost on drastic diets like this one.

Nutritional Benefits Of Diet Protein
Adequate nutrition for your body before and after strenuous work-outs is important in order for you to reap the maximum benefits from your efforts. An increasingly
popular way of achieving this is through the use of natural Diet Protein supplements.
Nowadays many athletes, especially Body Builders, are utilizing natural Diet Protein supplements to replenish protein levels that are burned off through hard-core exercise routines. Amino Acids prevent deterioration in muscle tissue as well as provide endurance and assist in building mass. Proteins help supply these amino acids.
- So what exactly is Diet Protein?
Diet Protein is derived from cow's milk and is also a by-product of making cheese, which in the past was typically thrown out as a waste product. We now know that Diet Protein is rich in amino acids essential for building muscle and overall good health.
Diet Protein is also naturally found in breast milk as well as some types of baby formula. Although protein is also found in other foods such as meats and vegetables, Diet Protein is known to have the highest digestible levels of protein that the body can use.
Diet Protein offers several other health benefits like a healthier immune system, stronger bones, weight loss, and just plain overall better well being. Diet Protein is also sometimes used to help speed the healing of wounds or burns.
- Are there risks or side affects?
Since Diet Protein is derived from food it doesn't have any of the risks associated with man-made supplements. However, you can even have too much of a good thing if you're not careful. Extreme high use can be more than your liver can handle. Moderation is always best.
Things To Know About Protein
This article gives an in-depth information about protein, what it really is, how to get the most out of it and useful buying tips.
Different scientific researches have proven that is the highest quality protein available on the market today. Several main factors give it the number one position
when compared with egg whites, casein or soy protein. First of all, get more rapidly absorbed and digested by the body. It leads to increased muscular strength and performance capacity, improves blood lipid levels, immunity and blood pressure.
The bodybuilding industry is well aware of those facts, so it should come as no surprise that over 50% of all bodybuilding supplements contain it. Of course, a thing to remember is that no matter how good your supplementation might be, it's the successful combination of all components that determines what you will achieve. Besides protein and all the other supplemental products, bodybuilding requires hard work in the gym, consistency, 8-10 hours of sleep, and nutritious daily meals.
Protein is easily absorbed by the body, but there are still certain tips to have in mind in order to intake it in the best possible way. There are certain periods during the day, in which your body will use protein to the fullest. For example, it's always best to have a protein shake early in the morning right after you wake up.
It's always best to drink it in the morning, because on an empty stomach, the acids are stronger, so the protein will be absorbed to the fullest. It also helps your body stop the catabolic process (when your body is breaking down muscle mass to get aminos) which are the last thing that a bodybuilder wants. In that way, you will not only stop the catabolic process, but you will also speed up the recovery and growth of your muscles.
To get even faster digestion, don't mix protein with milk, use water instead. Milk contains additional aminos and other components which are hard to digest. That's why it's best to have it with water, after breakfast.
Other periods in which you should have a protein shake are before and/or after your workout. This is the time of the day when you put the heaviest nutritional demand upon your body, and protein helps to add more muscle mass. To jump-start the recovery process, have a shake no longer than 40 minutes after workout.
The latest protein products contain additional supplements like taurine, glutamine, creatine. Read the label to have an idea what exactly you are buying and make a good comparison of the different brands. It's better to buy a product with low complex carbs content and as little sugar as possible. No fructose, sucrose, fillers, binders or gums.
Can Too Little Protein Cause Hair Loss?
Hair usually grows about half an inch per month, although this slows as you age. Each hair remains on your head for two to six years, and during most of this time is
continually growing. But many factors can disrupt this cycle. The result can be that your hair falls out early or isn't replaced.
A new discovery has been made in finding out what actually causes hair loss, namely: the hardening of collagen. Persons who do not suffer from hair loss have supple collagen and persons who begin showing signs of hair loss have hardened collagen. Collagen hardening interferes with the healthy functioning of the hair roots. The vital exchange process of the hair follicle cycle is disrupted and the hair becomes suffocated.
But What Causes Hair Loss?
Diet: Too little protein in your diet can lead to hair shedding. So can too little iron. Bottom line: Too strenuous dieting can result in hair loss! If you want to lose weight, do it the sensible way, especially if you have a hair thinning/loss problem to begin with.
Childbirth: Some women lose large amounts of hair within two to three months after delivery.
Hot Tips!
One great tip is after washing your hair, dry it in whatever manner you normally do. Then turn your head upside down, give your head a vigorous shake, and once back in a standing position, either "place" your hair using your fingers, rather than a brush or comb. You can also use a hair pick to style your hair. The upside down, shaking, also gives a great deal of fullness to otherwise flat looking thin hair. You'd be amazed at how creative you can be with your fingers without pulling at the root of the hair!
To protect hair, the best practice is to shampoo only when hair is dirty. Because fine hair gets dirty faster, people with fine-textured hair need to shampoo more frequently -- even though fine hair breaks more easily.
Meal Replacement Diet Cookies
The meal-replacement cookies that Dr. Siegal created work to curb the appetite without drugs and help dieters to stay on their doctor-supervised diet. Since 1975, more that 500,000 people have used his Cookie Diet foods to reach their weight loss goals. They work because they're not only convenient, but their ability to successfully curtail hunger makes them a sensible, healthy alternative to other snacks.
Before your mouth starts watering, it's only fair to say that compared to the standard cookie on the shelf at your local grocer, these cookies aren't what you call delicious. But think about it—those delicious, high-sugar laden cookies are one of the reasons people need to lose weight. Dr. Siegal drew on his knowledge of chemistry and his love of cooking to find the answer. Through the process of trial and error, he found that the combination of certain food proteins produced a remarkable hunger control per calorie. This discovery led to his famous cookies.

All About Diet Protein
Diet Proteins are very important to our bodies. It isn't just for bodybuilders who use them to gain muscle mass. Those who are sick use them to rebuild damaged tissue
and even in normal states, our body uses protein for many different tasks.
Proteins are made of amino acids that are folded together. There are essential amino acids - those that our body cannot make, and non essential amino acids - those that our body can make. Proteins that are made up of all the essential amino acids are said to be complete while those that lack in one or more essential amino acid are incomplete. Complete proteins come from sources such as meat, eggs, cheese, dairy and soy. Incomplete proteins come mainly from vegetable sources with the one exception being soy.
The ideal source should be complete proteins. For most people that isn't a problem. If you are worried about fat intake, try lean cuts of beef, chicken and turkey. For vegetarians whose main source comes from incomplete proteins, getting a variety of vegetables and whole grains throughout the day will ensure that all essential amino acids are consumed. Also, using soy protein (which is the only complete vegetable source of protein) is very beneficial.
Diet Protein And Its Role In Bodily Functions
Diet Protein is an essential organic compound composed of 20 or more amino acids which are joined by peptide bonds. Diet Proteins serve as structural material such as connective tissue, and hair (i.e. collagen and keratin) can function as enzymes and hormones, as transporters of essential substances such as oxygen, antibodies, or
regulators of gene expression. The importance of Diet Protein cannot be overstated in its effects on overall health regardless of age. Dieters using the low-Diet Protein diet can be seriously lacking in many essential nutrients including minerals such as zinc, iron, manganese, chromium, copper, etc. These deficiencies can lead to chronic illness, fatigue and make mental function more difficult.
In order to fight sickness and disease, our immune systems need to be in optimum performance. Something you may not have realized but our immune system are almost all Diet Protein based. Providing the body with the correct Diet Proteins is like providing the proper building blocks of the immune system and can help to fight the common cold and infections better. Diet Proteins are also used to repair muscles during exercise.
There are eight essential amino acids which the body cannot manufacture and which we must derived from our diet each day. The essential amino acids are (i) isoleucine, (ii) leucine, (iii) lysine, (iv) methionine, (v) phenylalanine, (vi) theronine, (vii) tryptophan, and (viii) valine. With this list of Diet Proteins it is possible to determine where we can find these amino acids and incorporate them into our diet. We need Diet Protein in our diet on a daily basis, especially for muscle function which requires a particular mix of amino acids which are not found in many food sources. For example, to increase muscle mass, you need glutamine, carnitine, taurine, and arginine amino acids.
Now that we know we need Diet Protein daily in our diet and that Diet Protein is essential to life. So the next question you may have is what kind of Diet Proteins are the best? Quality Diet Proteins found in your local grocery store can be found in meat, nuts, eggs, and other foods. If you turn to your local health food store, look at soy, casein, whey and egg Diet Proteins. The type of Diet Protein you take will depend upon what you are capable of eating, i.e. taste. Some people have trouble eating whey Diet Protein, while others cannot pallet egg Diet Protein.
The best Diet Protein found in nature however is derived from egg whites. Egg Diet Proteins are not only complete in its supply of what the body needs, the egg is rich in chlorine, niacin, potassium, magnesium, riboflavin, selenium, vitamin K, sulphur, and omega-3. An added bonus to eating egg whites is the lack of cholesterol and sodium in the yoke. Eggs are also one of the most tolerable Diet Proteins in the human body where over 90 percent of the Diet Proteins derived from eggs is digested into the individual amino acids our bodies need. By eating egg derived Diet Protein you are essentially supplying the body with the raw materials it needs for proper function. So, if you have been troubled by fatigue, poor hair and nails the answer may be to increase your Diet Protein intake or try an all natural egg white Diet Protein for three to four weeks and see what a difference it will make in your health and appearance.
